From Welding to Cranes

Active Crane Rentals, Inc. was established in 1964. While a young Lloyd Schmeusser was working in his father and mother Fred and Irene Schmeusser’s welding, air compressor, and generator rental business he approached them about diversifying and starting a crane rental business together. Today, the business has progressed into its fourth generation. It all began with a conventional crane and in time expanded to include hydraulic cranes, rough terrain, and cherry pickers, serving a wide variety of industries in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland. Lloyd and his late father enjoyed many successful business ventures together.

Welcoming the Fourth Generation

With the growth of the business, Lloyd’s sister Jan and brother Gary joined the team and were an integral part of the business and keys to its success over the years. Then as a youngster, Lloyd’s son Steve, the third generation, started helping in the shop, then became an operating engineer and transitioned into management.

The business continued to grow and expanded to include boom trucks, hauling equipment, rigging services, storage and warehouse. Eventually, Lloyd passed the torch and Steve took over the business.

Steve and his wife Karen have continued the Active legacy through expanding the business and the family. Their children; Hunter, Beau and Brooke all currently work in the company. Each brings their own expertise to the business. Active Crane Rental’s has always prided itself on creating a family from our employees to our customers. As we transition to a new generation, we strive to keep that tradition.
